Nope. However, any unencrypted data (such as any website that starts in http:// rather than https://, most IM conversations, most email) going over the network will be visible to them. Not only that, but it will be visible to anyone else who has joined that wifi network. Also, they will be able to modify any data before you download it. Luckily this is taken care of by sites using SSL (the ones beginning in https:// ) through the use of security certificates. Just make sure that if you get an error about an out of data/invalid certificate, you do not accept it.

So will they get your bank info? Probably not, since your bank probably uses SSL (https). Just watch out: Most banks have an unsecured login on their main page. In order to get a secure one, you can usually just enter an invalid login into this one. Why they do this is beyond me. Also, as I said earlier, do not accept unverifiable certificates.

Will they get a heck of a lot of your personal information? Yes. You can minimize the amount they get with many programs allowing you to encrypt more of your traffic. A few are listed bellow:

Err, this list is rather incomplete due to the fact that I can’t think of any more atm. Google it ;)

Anytime you use a wifi that isn’t password protected, anyone nearby can’t see data you send/receive. Most bank accounts, etc use encryption, so although they can see it, they probably can’t decrypt it. They can’t see personal information that’s on your computer, only info you send.

If it’s password protected, then only someone who knows the password can see the data.

And it’s true, although it’s fairly easy to find out who’s on your network, most average ppl (meaning those who don’t know how to set up a password on a wireless router) don’t know how to do that. And all they can tell anyway is that you’re there, not who you are. Unless their router can report your mac address, which some can, but even then it’s nearly impossible and definitely not worth anyone’s time to find out who owns that mac address.

no but they can monitor what websites you visit.(so no porn.. unless u dont mind the awkward next time u see the guy) if u go 2 your banks website its a secure site so its encripted. so he cant see your login info or anything u see on your internet banking site. id make sure u turn off file sharing tho,
