Banking services under the Uthuru Wasanthaya programme are being streamlined..
The Peoples Bank has taken the initiative of opening its branches in the liberated Mullaitivu, Kilinochchi, Paranthan and Mankulam areas to cater to the needs of the civilians. These activities took place under the full supervision of the Uthuru Wasanthaya Task Force. The total allocation made by the bank to grant low interest credit is one Billion rupees. Two branches of the Peoples Bank were opened at Pesalai and Settikulam in Mannar yesterday. The opening took place under the patronage of Chairman of the Peoples Bank W. Karunajeewa and its Deputy General Manager Ranjith Jayatilake.
Mr. Karunajeewa said a large volume of work has been completed to improve the livelihoods of the Northern people under the leadership of the President and Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa. A large sum was issued as credit to the people today.
