In this video, the legendary Mushtaq Ahmed Yousafi, at the age of 85, delivers a talk, his first in Los Angeles, in August 2007. He came at the invitation of Urdu Markaz International, Los Angeles. This is the world famous academy of letters that sponsors the highest class of Urdu poetry and literature.

The meeting was chaired by Ms. Nayyar Jehan Begum, (Nayyar Apa)

Mushtaq Ahmed Yousafi, was born on 4th of August 1923 in Tonk, Rajasthan, India. His family immigrated to Karachi, Pakistan in 1947.

A law graduate with a Master’s degree in philosophy from Aligarh Muslim University, he started his banking career with Muslim Commercial Bank in 1950. Over the years, Yousafi rose to become the President of five different international banking institutions including the Pakistan’s Banking Council.

Yousafi gave a new dimension to Urdu prose and is regarded as the greatest living writer of the Urdu language.

He is the author of Chiragh Talay (1961), Khakam-ba-dahan (1969), Zarguzasht (1976) and Aab-i-gum (1990). The first two works won Adamjee Prizes; Aab-i-gum won the Hijra Award as well as Pakistan Academy of Letters Award for best book of 1990.
Yousafi has been awarded the highest civil awards of Pakistan, including the Sitara e Imtiaz and the Hilal e Pakistan.
