Question about wireless internet security?

October 13th, 2009

What kind of security risk do I take when I log into my personal banking account on an https site on someone else’s unsecured wireless network?

(This question was too long for the question box.)
I dunno the best answer. you guys pick.

Open ‘hotspot’ wifi means all traffic to and from your lapper is in plaintext.
The https only means the server is secure (they are who they say they are)
So, anyone with a ‘packet sniffer’ can intercept and record all your transmissions, then get to work with brute force passphrase crackers, and eventually would have plenty of info that you once thought was safe.
Best advice is not to use open wifi for anything where you have to log in to a site…keep it as casual surfing only.

fairly high you need a good firewall and not the one that comes with windows it isn’t good enough

if you don’t have one use this

Comodo Firewall Pro http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/download_firewall.html Free Edition
For Hacker Protection With the only Leak test proof Firewall (means your information doesn’t leak out to the internet)

Online banking is convenient. Not always the safest. Its SAFEST to use your own connection or just simply use a bank ATM or just go see the teller.

It is covered with FDIC(up to 100,000$) but it can cause a lot of pain and suffering if your information reaches the wrong hands.

the internet, the internet, wireless or cable connected is never safe to do internet banking, yes it saves time and bugs but its not safe
i use the internet 24/24 but one thing i dont do on the net is banking, stick to the old ATM or bank cues, stay away from internet banking, if you do it dont do it often only when you realy need it
